Grovebacks are huge creatures and the second largest creature on Darwin IV (the SEA STRIDER is the largest).
Food[]

marshall
Grovebacks bury themselves for long periods of time. During that time they feed off of the nutrients from the ground. When the nutrients in the soil are gone, trees on the Groveback's back inject sugars into the groveback that gives them enough energy to find the next feeding ground. They're also believed to feed on Microflyers and Aerophytes.

Dynamics and description []
The groveback has an axe-shaped head with four small eyes and walks on two pillar like legs. Grovebacks have trees on their backs. They travel in herds and are prey items of the Beach Quills (and possibly Eosapian).
Trivia[]
The original book gives the groveback a height of 196.8 feet. In the film, this is reduced to 54.1 feet.
